As LANNA Secondary continues to grow, and as more and more students move from other schools to join our increasingly highly respected and successful IGCSE and A Level programmes, we are able to offer more and more choices – at both levels. We already offer by far the widest range of IGCSE and A Level options in the north of Thailand and will add four new courses for the coming year, giving students even greater freedom to choose subjects that they enjoy and can excel at.
It is perhaps a sign of our increasingly academic students, many with aspirations in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, that a need for higher level maths courses has become apparent – beyond the IGCSE and A Level mathematics courses that are already on offer. I am very pleased, therefore, to be able to share that for the coming year we will offer two new mathematics courses from Cambridge: a second option at IGCSE known as “Additional Mathematics” (it’s actually at a level somewhere between IGCSE and AS Level), and a second option at A Level called “Further Mathematics” (a very high level mathematics course, akin to first year degree level mathematics).
I am hugely excited to be able to strengthen the mathematics offering available at LANNA, but also to be able to move forward with expanding our offerings within the field of humanities, offering the popular subject of Sociology at IGCSE for the first time. Sociology has been a very popular and successful A Level option at LANNA for many years and I am confident it will be equally so at IGCSE. This brings our humanities offerings at IGCSE to a total of five different subjects for our students to select from: Geography, History, Enterprise (business), Global Perspectives and Sociology. Hopefully, something “humanities” there for everyone…
Also at IGCSE level we will be introducing Computer Science for the first time, alongside the ever popular IT (Information Technology) course. The key difference here is that the Computer Science course is very much focused on those with a real interest in programming and the science behind computing, whereas IT meets the needs of those more interested in developing higher level business computing type skills.
From August 2022 there will be a total of 15 optional IGCSE subjects offered to students at LANNA (in addition to the core IGCSEs of English Language and Literature, Mathematics and Coordinated Science, that everyone follows). At A Level we will be offering 17 separate A Level options, with very small class sizes, and a fantastic track record of success (100% again this year). If you are interested to know more about what we offer at LANNA, and find out why so many students are choosing to spend their High School years at LANNA studying for their IGCSEs and A Levels, please visit our website to find out more.
Whilst you are at our website, I would especially like to direct you to download the various course overview booklets that are available from the SECONDARY SCHOOL page, and for you to also take some time to find out more about our highly qualified and experienced teachers by reading their biographies via the MEET THE STAFF page. On that page you can also find my contact email. Please get in touch if you would like to set up an appointment to talk with me about what we can offer for your family. I would be very happy to talk with you – whether in person or via a video call.
